During the Coronavirus

You may have heard during the coronavirus press conferences that Pernod Ricard, one of the largest liquor companies in the world, is making hand sanitizer. The company, who produces widely known spirits as Chivas Regal Scotch Whiskey and Absolut Vodka, is working directly with the federal government in an attempt to solve the shortage.

Hand sanitizer is one of the simplest items used in combating COVID-19 if you cannot wash your hands, according to the FDA. Unfortunately, this fact has led to the disappearance of the product from the shelves throughout the U.S.

Companies such as Purell can’t keep up with the demand for this product. That’s where Pernod Ricard came in, but not only the giant corporations are involved in this project. Some of the small batch distilleries around the country have jumped on the bandwagon. Not only are these companies making FDA approved sanitizer, they are donating a lot of it.

I have been writing about liquor quite a bit over the last 11 years. I’ve dealt with companies large and small. When I heard about the project distilleries were undertaking, I put out some feelers to find out exactly what they were doing and how they went about it.
